Remembering Shakti...

...will not be much of an issue. Considering I just attended one of their concerts yesterday at the Moore Theater out here in Seattle.

I shall spare you a barrage of superlatives, but suffice it to say that any attempt to describe the experience of sitting in the hall with Ustad Zakir Hussain, Maestro U.Shrinivas (what a surprise to see him!), John McLaughlin and percussionist Selvaganesh (son of "ghatam" master "Vikku" Vinayakram) playing mesmerizing jazz carnatic fusion would barely do justice to the complete immersive experience they wove in their inimitable style. "Shakti" was an international fusion music troupe formed in the late 70s by tabla player Zakir Hussain and guitarist John McLaughlin. While the band itself disintegrated some years hence, they have toured the world while netting some world-famous instrumentalists to play with them for their "Remembering Shakti" series of tours.

It is a testimony to their excellence when they ended the concert to a standing ovation that lasted a good 5 minutes during which time the applauding audience coaxed the artists to return twice from backstage to take a bow before them. And the third time they got the message, got back onstage, and played another piece! It was one of those "meta-moments" that got me thinking about how lucky we are to be alive and how fortunate we are to have such moments of happiness and how amazing it is what kinds of amazing things we human beings are capable of creating.

If you have any interest in Carnatic music, jazz music or fusion music, you should find yourself enjoying their compositions. Check if there are any concerts near you...

Master Chief goes to the PDC

What happens when the marketing folks at Microsoft get wind of the Red Vs. Blue chronicles? They make a Red Vs. Blue PDC promo! Hyok. This thing is downright howlarious - check it out!

I would shell out 2 grand to go to the PDC if Cortana will make an appearance :-).

Wow water car!

Just found out about this amazing invention straight out of a Bond movie: the Aquada, a water car. Check out the video/trailer showing it in operation - it drives right off the road straight into water! Holy mackerel!

Perhaps it's now a good idea to buy a house on the Sammamish plateau across the lake... I'm sure a boatload of M'softies will start taking the "shortcut" to get to work!
