Today's news, in clear Spanish. This program is narrated by an artificial voice.
It's Sunday, October eighteenth.
We open on the east side of Austin. Six people are competing for City Council District 1. They are seeking the seat of Natasha Harper-Madison, who cannot run again because of term limits. It is the district with the most Black residents.
Let's move to the west. District 8 has two candidates: Selena Xie and Jeffery Bowen. She leads the paramedics' union; he has already run for mayor. They cross paths on housing, parks and taxes.
And along the way, good news for book lovers. The bookstore First Light Books is opening its second branch in the Clarksville neighborhood. It goes inside a former Methodist church that closed in 2024. The first store lives where a post office used to be.
That's all. We'll hear each other tomorrow. See you later!
